School Events
We arrived in Mabomboh on 22nd April 2026. The next morning, we saw the students and teachers preparing for their first talent show that evening on 23rd April. The performances were varied and entertaining, and the highlight of the event was a presentation of the ‘African King and Queen’ competition. The children of each house were impressive in their outfits and were confident royals. The winner of the talent show was Jane Cowie House (aka Pink House).
On Friday 24th April, the annual sporting event took place and was well attended by parents and visitors from the surrounding villages. It was a lively and very competitive occasion. The children had food and soft drinks to celebrate. Martin Herriot House (aka Blue House) came first with Jane Cowie House (aka Pink House) coming second. Dr Fash House (aka White House) and Mighty Soriba House (aka Yellow House) shared third place.

On Saturday 25th April, the children were transported to a picturesque river beach in the nearby village of Maheri. It took four trips by an open back pick up truck to transport all the children. Many of them had fond memories of this trip from the year prior, and they all had a great time with music, food, soft drinks, and of course the opportunity to swim and play around in the sand.

Construction
We are pleased to share that construction of a 200 capacity dining/community hall, and five one-bedroom self-contained units for the teachers has begun. This phase of the project has been made possible due to the generous donation of a local family who donated a total of £29,000 between January and March 2026. This donation will also offer the opportunity to build suitable toilets for staff and students.

Medical Funds
On Thursday 23rd April, a member of staff told us that a student in Class One had been bitten by a snake when they were out searching for mangoes during the Easter Holiday. He was extremely ill but his mother could not afford medical treatment at a hospital. Thanks to funds from Chelsfield Methodist Church for medical treatment, and monies raised by Iain from his half marathon in March, we were able to fund the child’s medical treatment and his condition is improving each day. Thank you very much to everyone who has donated as you are not only giving these children access to education, but you are also saving lives.
